Year 3 – Zebras

As a transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2, Zebras adopt a cross-curricular approach to learning. The guiding Montessori methods and materials continue throughout the year and are extended to the advanced level in Maths and Language.

Building on the independent learning approach, children are encouraged to input into their own weekly work plans helping to create a level of responsibility and ownership. These planning skills are invaluable and will help prepare the children in readiness for Upper Prep where planning skills become a key factor in school life.

The weekly work plans also contain practical life skills, again building on the Montessori hands-on approach to learning and encouraging independence.

During year 3, trips include a visit to the Iceni Village to learn about Celtic life and Colchester Castle to learn more about one of the biggest Celt/Roman battles. Added to these trips are the various outings to farms, London museums, France and Hilltop.

In the summer term our year 3 children also become part of the cast of the Upper Prep annual drama production which takes place at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds.
These all make for an exciting, memorable and action packed final year in Arbor Lower Prep.
