Reception Class – Dolphins

We believe that pre-preparatory classes are a very important part in any child's development, providing the transition from nursery to preparatory.

Here at Arbor we see this class as a partnership between parents and staff – in fact the transition is often harder for the parents than it is for the child!

Under the highly experienced eye of Mrs Jones, children enjoy a wonderful year exploring all subject areas, primarily through the use of Montessori methods and materials, working towards Foundation Stage goals and preparing for Key Stage 1.

All children receive regular one to one coaching from our dedicated reading and language specialist. This, combined with word building and sound recognition skills learnt via phonic-based material, ensure a solid base for future learning is achieved.

Mathematical development is approached using hands-on practical exercises specifically designed to build a concrete understanding of basic principles.

With visits to the local water mill in Autumn, Ickworth Park in the Spring and Africa Alive during the summer, there is never a dull moment!

Perhaps what makes this class so special is the level of pastoral support given to each child by our dedicated teaching staff; Mrs Jones and Miss Hartwell.
